À propos

This September, Montreal Fashion Week will take place at the Montreal Art Center and Museum, offering an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the world of fashion and sustainability. This year's feature designer is Tonya Dickenson, the founder of Asymmetric by Design.

Meet Tonya

Tonya Dickenson is an accomplished professional with a tremendous experience in the fashion industry. With a career spanning 25 years in marketing and branding, she has honed her expertise to perfection. As the Founder and Creative Director of Asymmetric by Design, Tonya created more than just a fashion label; it's a beacon of transformation towards sustainable fashion and gender equality. Her collection of beads, gathered over 45 years of travel and nurtured through personal connections, tells a rich history dating back 100,000 years, preserving the stories of ancient civilizations, ethnic groups, and customs. These beads witness global migration and trade, carrying powerful messages of empowerment and personal values. Each piece from Asymmetric by Design features carefully selected beads woven into one-of-a-kind designs. By wearing our jewelry, every woman makes a profound statement about her identity, principles, and beliefs, expressing what she stands for and deeply cares about.

More About Asymmetric by Design

The vision for Asymmetric by Design is rooted in Egypt in 1978, where Tonya, the daughter of a Canadian diplomat, discovered her passion for antique beads and silver. Soon she became a collectorof these unique time capsules and a student of their role in culture and history. She has lived all over the world and embarked on hundreds of journeys collecting treasures throughout the Middle East, SouthAmerica, Asia, and Africa. Seeing firsthand the remarkable inequalities and the disproportionate impacts of climate change, she realized the importance of empowering women and artisans in the developing world and the urgent need to protect our planet. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and predominantly composed of antique, vintage, or recycled elements collected over 45 years, infused with a modern asymmetric twist. As a net positive and values-driven brand, Asymmetric by Design creates collections inspired by the principles of sustainability, freedom, and democracy (Ukraine), and women’s rights. Asymmetric by Design is created for global citizens and ethical consumers as a way for them to differentiate themselves, take a stand on critical issues of the day, and help protect the environment. It is a brand that believes we each have a social responsibility towards others, including the planet and its biodiversity. Small steps, multiplied by many, can help ensure a better future for generations worldwide.
