About the event
Vernissage: Saturday, September 7 I 5pm -7pm.
Love and Acceptance is an exhibition that highlights the innate beauty of the human form, with a special focus on male subjects of various body types captured in moments of vulnerability. Through each painting, Lionel invites the audience to engage with these intimate portrayals and reflect on the emotions they evoke within.
Using bright, sumptuous colours and bold, expressive brushstrokes, Lionel seeks to evoke powerful feelings through his art. Many of his paintings incorporate gold leaf to create a striking contrast against the oil paint, adding depth and richness to the pieces.
In his Night Series, Lionel experiments with fluorescent acrylic paint, in addition to oil paint, to create vibrant colours that truly stand out when viewed under a black light.
Meet Lionel
"On an evening walk, I saw the intersection light turn from red to green, and I was mesmorized. It was the first time I noticed color. Then, I could see color everywhere, and I felt inspired to learn how to paint," says Lionel Comeau.
Today, Lionel gravitates toward painting the male figure or portrait, finding a deep connection with these subjects as they convey unspoken human experiences through body language and color. He sees beauty in the human form, regardless of size or shape, often capturing it in moments of vulnerability.
His use of color is particularly striking, with a strong affinity for gold and fluorescent hues. Lionel incorporates gold leaf (composite) to evoke an "unquantifiable feeling" in his work. In his 'Night Series,' luminous fluorescent colors from the paintings light up vividly under black light to illuminate our most intense emotions - emotions only felt in the nighttime when in the darkness.
