Meet the Curator: Fernanda Avalos

Filmmaker | Art Director | Actress – Canada & Mexico

Fernanda Avalos is an award-winning filmmaker, art director, and actress. Her work brings a layered, cross-cultural perspective to storytelling, with a creative voice rooted in mood, imagery, and emotional resonance. She explores themes of identity and human connection, often through supernatural and atmospheric narratives, using visuals as a language.

Her short film Can You Open the Door? was a finalist at the Stockholm City Film Festival and received the Best Short Film award at the New York Monthly Film Festival. As an art director, she worked on the Québécois short Les Tempéraments, which won Best Québécois Short Film at the Requiem Festival and was selected for the Fantasia International Film Festival.

As an actress, Fernanda starred as a femme fatale in the 1940s-inspired film Affaire Montenegro, reflecting her affinity for evocative, genre-inflected, and character-driven cinema.

As the curator of the Montreal Art Center and Museum's film club, Fernanda is passionate about building a vibrant, inclusive film community where artists—both emerging and established—can connect with other creatives and exchange ideas. Through community events and thought-provoking discussions, she fosters collaborations across disciplines and helps forge meaningful connections that drive innovation and growth in the world of film.

Meet the Host: Christine Ghawi

Actress | Singer | Songwriter – Canada

Christine Ghawi is an award-winning actress, singer, and songwriter with over 20 years of experience captivating audiences. She was honored with the 24th Annual Gemini Award in 2009 for Best Performance in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Celine Dion, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft.

Christine has an extensive film and television portfolio, including notable roles in:
